Wedding Flowers by Emily also does photography!
Emily and Stan were so kind to let me take "engagement" photos of them... even though they've been married for about a year now :-). I guess you can see Stan's ring in a few of the photos - hah!
I took this happy couple's engagement photos as well as their "first look" photos last year. They are SO easy to photograph so I had to try out my new camera on them. These are my favorite photos I took of them. Thanks Emily and Stan- you both are truly beautiful people inside and out.

Mallory's Photoshoot
Ok, I'm kind of freaking out at the quality of photos I'm getting with this new camera I just upgraded to. I'm finally starting to get the types of images I have been trying so long to achieve.
A big thank you to Mallory for letting me take photos of her on the WKU campus while I was out visiting in Tennessee! She is doing her masters there and wanted some photos on the campus. What a beautiful girl on a beautiful campus!

Diane's Photoshoot
Photography is also a passion of mine. Floral design is actually how I got into photography. When I first started my business 3 years ago, I was taking pictures of the bouquets I was making with a small point and shoot camera and I didn't like the quality of the photos. The bouquets looked so much better in real life- the photos just didn't do them justice! I decided to upgrade to a dslr camera and was finally somewhat pleased with the results. Thus, my photography career was born.
I recently upgraded my camera, but to a full frame camera this time and I can finally say that I'm getting the photos I have been trying all this time to create. YES! I had no idea the power good lenses and a full frame camera can have on my photography. I thought I had a "really nice camera" before - little did I know! Don't get me wrong, I am still really happy and proud of some of the photos that I took with that "really nice camera" but it can't compare.
A big thank you to Diane for being such a good sport and letting me take photos of her while I was visiting Nashville, TN. You are truly a beautiful person inside and out. Here are some of the photos I took of her!

Top 5 Things to Bring to Your Floral Consultation
I have met with hundreds of brides since I started my business, Wedding Flowers by Emily, over 3 years ago. The floral consultation can be a bit stressful for some brides. Many brides are unsure about what types of flowers they want, their budget, style etc.
Here are my TOP 5 THINGS TO BRING that will make your floral consultation a stress free success.
1. A Complete List of All the Items You Need (how many BM, GM, arrangements etc.)
Nobody expects the bride to have all the details hashed out before the floral consultation. A good florist will know how to help make those difficult decisions about specific flowers, what varieties will work well, and how to make your dream wedding become a reality even on a budget.
What they'll need from you is the nuts and bolts. What, when, how big, and how many are all questions you should come to your consultation prepared to answer. That way, you and your florist can use your time to work out the details instead of deciding whether Uncle Fred really needs a bout or not.
Finally, don't expect your florist to be able to give an accurate price quote without all of the pertinent information. Bringing a shopping list of all the floral items you need to your consultation will save you and your florist a huge headache.
2. Your Budget
Having a budget ready at the beginning of your consultation will help your florist make important decisions about what type of flowers you can afford to put into your arrangements. A good florist will know how to match your budget to the style of wedding you want even if the budget is tight.
3. Wedding Colors and Style (rustic, boho, formal, etc.)
The mark of a good florist is how well they are able to suggest the right flowers to match your personal style and preference. Having an idea of your colors and style of wedding you want is like a map for your florist and will help them understand your preference. The four bouquets below all have a very unique and specific style to them and it's important to know what style of bouquet you want to be carrying on your wedding day.

4. Photos of Bouquets You Like
A picture is worth a thousand words. Bringing photos (or emailing them to your florist beforehand) to the consultation can help you clarify your style and can give the florist a strong idea of what you're looking for. It can also help them make suggestions for alternate flowers if the ones in the photos don't fit into your budget.
5. Any Additional Items You Want to Incorporate into the Flowers (special ribbon, brooch, lace from your dress, vases, etc.)
Want to include a piece of lace from your dress? Maybe you have a special brooch or you have already picked out some vases. These items can add meaning and focus to your floral arrangements. Just be sure to bring them with you to your consultation. They can really inspire your florist to create the "look" you are going for. It also will help them give you a more accurate price quote. One of my favorite things one of my brides added to her bouquet was two photo charms of important members of her family that passed away. What a sweet way to remember someone who was such a big part of your life!

All in all, the more clearly you can explain to your florist the what, when, how many, and how big, the better. Don't worry if you are not sure about how you want things to look or what flowers you want. If you have my TOP 5 THINGS TO BRING, your florist can help you with everything else!

Brides, Don't Forget About This Important Floral Detail!
I always have consultations with my brides to discuss exactly how they want their bouquet and other wedding flowers to look on their wedding day. Most brides have a pretty good idea about what they want and what color scheme they are going for. I truly want to give brides their dream bouquet while still staying in their budget. I really do my absolute best to design the bouquet that the bride describes to me. If the bride doesn't want greenery or fillers, I won't sneak some in there just to cut cost. By the time we get through discussing what flowers and style they are wanting, I ask them my final question about their bouquet: How would you like your bouquet wrapped?
Most of the time, the response is "I have never thought about that..."
The wrapping of the bouquet can change the style of the whole bouquet drastically. If you put burlap on a bouquet of pink roses, it becomes rustic or shabby chic (depending on the other flowers in the bouquet). If you put a satin ribbon on that same bouquet, it suddenly becomes very formal.
This is a very, very important detail that the majority of my brides don't think about.
Here are some examples of bouquet wrappings that I have done but the possibilities are endless!

Lauren's Wedding
I love it when my client is open to new things and when they allow creativity. Lauren wanted sticks, crazy greenery, bronze and orange hues, succulents, and a fun shape. I was a little apprehensive when she said her color scheme was copper and teal but it really worked out! I absolutely LOVE that metallic copper ribbon. I would probably put that on every bouquet if my brides would let me.
