Becca and Chris's Wedding Day

I had the amazing opportunity to take the photos for Becca and Chris's wedding. It was such a blast! Every time I do any kind of photo shoot, I always learn SO much about photography, people, and my part in the execution of the whole event. Here are a few of the things I learned from shooting this gorgeous country wedding.

1. Horses don't like wedding dresses

True to herself and style, Becca rode up to the alter on horseback.  Unfortunately, the horse didn't seem as excited about the idea as Becca did.  I guess it wasn't used to having a rider with a big fluffy dress on- imagine that! Hah, when we went to take photos in the field with them, they didn't like that much either and made sure to keep their distance.  Horses and dresses... don't mix.


2.  I either need to invest in only prime lenses or invest in fixed aperture lenses

My photography style is all about moving. I pretty much never stay still when I shoot and I really like it when my subjects move around too. It not only keeps everyone from getting stiff but it helps keep things fun! With this style, prime lenses or fixed aperture lenses can cut down on a bit of the thought process that goes into each photo.

Anyone want to buy these lenses for me?

3. A country type theme can actually look country

Sounds silly right? One of the things I really appreciated about Becca and Chris's wedding is the fact that their theme stayed true to who they are. Having a rustic wedding scene is definitely "in" right now but I really appreciated how for Becca and Chris, the rustic theme came naturally and didn't seem forced.  The location of the wedding truly was out in the country and on the land Becca grew up on for a good portion of her life. Mason jars, wooden crates, a timber archway, Wrangler jeans, cowboy boots, line dancing, sunflowers, and a plywood dance floor all fit right in and didn't feel staged at all. I really appreciate it when brides show who they are on their wedding day.

4. Be SO thankful for good lighting!

You can't convince every bride to get married or take photos during the "golden hour" but I was so lucky to get these two alone during that time. Sometimes it just doesn't work out that way with other weddings but I am thrilled with the lighting in the majority of the photos. All of the sun flares and sun rays are all real, not Photoshopped in. Love it!


5. Becca and Chris love each other

I was truly inspired by the love I felt between Becca and Chris. Throughout the day, I repeatedly captured them beaming at each other with pure admiration.  At times, I couldn't help but notice how Chris just HAD to pull Becca in for a kiss.  Believe me, I've been around a lot of brides and grooms and there is absolutely no question in my mind that Becca and Chris truly love each other. I'm so glad I got to follow them around and witness that.
